Good morning, friends!
I am currently writing this newsletter in a cafe in Marbella, where I am on holiday for a week! πͺπΈ
This week, I want to answer a common question I have been getting a lot in my YouTube comments: what is the best laptop for data science? In my opinion, The best βout of the boxβ option is a Macbook Pro with an M-series chip.
I am sure there are people who will say, "What about the Dell Ubuntu X-treme with a Nimbus 2000 GPU and quantum AI CPU." If you have to ask a question like this, then you probably don't need me telling you what the best data since a laptop is π
I recommend the MacBook Pro because MacOS is UNIX-based, which is very similar to Linux, which most of the world's servers and the Internet run on. And before anyone says anything, I know you can replicate a similar terminal interface in Windows or even just use a Linux machine.
Furthermore, I find the M chips just superior to Windows computers, which often ship with Intel. I'm not going to lie; I'm not super clued up on hardware, and again, someone will disagree with me and explain why the M chips are not that great.
However, I've never had a problem with my MacBook Pro M2, and it runs all my code smoothly, whereas my Windows machines always seem to have a problem. Sorry, it's not that scientific of an argument!
The final reason is that I simply prefer Apple products. I think they are better than Windows, and all my software runs seamlessly virtually all the time.
To be honest, it doesn't really matter. I run a lot of my code in the cloud using Docker or some virtual environment, so my local machine's actual performance matters little.
Regardless of your laptop type, this shouldn't be any form of friction that stops you from doing data science.
Weekly Favourites β€οΈ
πΒ Book β Dotcom Secrets by Russell Brunson. I'm really getting into reading business books, and this one was recommended to me. It's about building sales funnels in Internet marketing. If those last few words didn't mean much to you, don't worry; I hardly knew what they were before reading this book!
π¬Β Video β NeetCode: Why is everyone lying? NeetCode's take on the current state of AI is so good; in my opinion, he has hit the bullseye. The hype is so huge that it's actually ridiculous.
π¬Β Video β Jacob Sucks At Code. One of my new favourite YouTube channels. Jacob is documenting his tech start-up journey, and his content is amazing.
