Good morning, friends! ☀️
I had quite a busy week, so I am glad I can relax over the weekend. Although my relaxation is writing newsletters and making videos!
I sometimes get asked how I fit everything in; this newsletter, YouTube videos, and blogs are all things I manage to get out once a week, plus all the other essential aspects of life, like socialising, exercising, and having a full-time job.
Let me be clear, I'm not here to boast. There are individuals out there who put in far more effort than I do.
Getting everything done can be a struggle some weeks due to other important commitments, but I have yet to miss a week with my newsletter (we are on week 42!) and a weekly YouTube video (we are on video 48!).
One of the reasons my consistency has been good is my morning routine.
Don't worry; I will not preach one of those "self-development" morning routines we see online: a 10-mile run followed by 5 ice baths, a sauna, and a 1-hour meditation session. Somehow, you are meant to do this all before you start work, which is, needless to say, very unfeasible for many people.
My routine is straightforward. I wake up at ~7:30 a.m., go for a ~15-minute walk, make a cup of tea, and work 8 a.m.- 9 a.m. That is literally all there is to it. This gives me an extra 4 hours a week, enough to edit a YouTube video and write a blog.
Admittedly, I have the advantage of working from home 3-4 days a week, which I appreciate some people may not have. But the key takeaway here is that there's no such thing as a 'perfect' morning routine. It's about keeping things simple and leveraging the 80-20 (Pareto principle) rule as much as possible. Your routine should be sustainable, so don't overcomplicate it.
PS. My YouTube channel is slowly creeping up to 5k subscribers (absolutely fantastic, thank you!), and I want to do a 5k Q&A special, so please let me know if you have any questions! Feel free to message me on any of my platforms!!!!!
Weekly Favourites ❤️
🎙️ Podcast — Mark Zuckerberg: Llama 3, $10B Models, Caesar Augustus, & 1 GW Datacenters. An exciting interview with one of the most prominent tech leaders, especially with Meta's recent release of its open-source LLM Llama 3.
🔨 Tool — Grammarly Premium. After years of using the free version, I upgraded to Grammarly Premium, and the difference is pretty big. I am annoyed I didn't make the switch much earlier!
📚 Book: Hands-On Machine Learning with Scikit-Learn, Keras, and TensorFlow. I have been using this book as my reference text recently when learning recurrent neural networks. I honestly think that this is probably the best data science/machine learning book out there.
