Good morning, friends!
This newsletter is coming from Prague, Czech Republic! 🇨🇿
I know, it seems like I am always on holiday. I honestly don’t live this “jet setter” lifestyle at all, its just my holidays are always in the summer months (mainly August)!
Speaking of holidays, I wanted to discuss work-life balance, as I feel sometimes people misconstrue what it means.
Some people see work as literally work, something they don’t enjoy doing, and life as anything that is not work.
I actually disagree with this. Work-life balance is very personal and varies between people.
Without gassing myself up, people often ask me how I manage to post YouTube videos and write this newsletter every week while working full-time.
The answer is incredibly simple. Because I enjoy it.
Most of the time, it doesn’t feel like work because I am having fun. Think about it: Have you ever gotten burned out playing a video game or hanging out with your friends? Probably not because you enjoy it.
To circle this back to “real jobs,” the more interested you are in your work, the more you can do without feeling burned out. If you are excited about it, you will happily do more because you find it intrinsically motivating. I am lucky that I have found this in data science.
Now imagine doing something you extremely hate for 40 hours a week. Obviously, you will feel exhausted as the thing doesn’t give you any energy.
It takes time to figure out precisely what work-life balance means to you, but one thing is for sure, you should never sacrifice health for it. Health is always the number one priority.
The hard part is finding work you really enjoy doing, which is a whole topic within itself.
